How school hours count

If you are in school at least half-time, CMS says that can meet the month, even if you do not log 80 hours. Full-time counts too. Less than half-time can be mixed with other hours. Your school says if you are half-time. Your state decides what proof it takes.

What kind of school

CMS includes certain colleges, career and technical programs, high schools, and high school equivalency programs such as GED classes. Your state uses the school's own half-time or full-time label.

If you are less than half-time

Those class hours can still count. You can add them to work or volunteer hours to reach 80. CMS has a formula for credit hours. Your state will apply it. Ask them.

What to keep

A class schedule or a letter from the school that says you are enrolled and whether you are half-time. Log school in the 80 hours tracker and add a proof photo of the letter.
