Am I exempt from the 80 hours?

Some people do not have to show 80 hours a month. Tick anything below that fits you, then tap Check my answers. It takes about a minute, it is free, and you do not need an account. The 80-hour rule is for adults ages 19 to 64.

Nothing you tick is saved or sent anywhere. It stays on this page.

The rule may not cover you

The 80-hour rule is for adults ages 19 to 64 in the Medicaid adult group (or a similar state program).

You may be excused from the rule

The law names groups like these. This list is not complete, and your state decides how it applies. If one fits you, you may not need to show hours.

Your state may pause the rule for a short time

States choose whether to offer these. For a hospital stay or medical travel, you have to ask your state. For a disaster or high unemployment, you do not have to ask.

The rule covers adults ages 19 to 64 who get Medicaid through the adult group (or a similar state program) in the 50 states and Washington, DC. Not every state has that group. The rule does not cover U.S. territories.

Your answers can change over time. Check again if your situation changes, and tell your state Medicaid office about the change.

States have to start this rule by January 1, 2027, unless the federal government approves a delay (no later than December 31, 2028). Some states start sooner. Ask your state when it starts.
